Francisco Elson: Agrees to Deal with Jazz
Update: Elson has agreed in principle to a deal with Utah, the Salt Lake Tribune's Brian T. Smith reports.
Analysis: Elson is currently in the Netherlands, so the deal won't become official until he returns and passes a physical. With Mehmet Okur recovering from offseason Achilles surgery and possibly limited early in the season, Elson will provide some extra depth.
Jianlian Yi: (Achilles) Plays Well at World Championships
Update: Yi averaged a very respectable 20.2 points and 10.6 rebounds for China during their run in the 2010 FIBA World Championships, the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: These numbers were all the more impressive considering Yi battled an Achilles problem much of the tournament and received a lot of defense attention as China's best player.
Matt Barnes: Arrested on Domestic Violence Charge
Update: Barnes was arrested Wednesday night on a domestic violence charge and for allegedly obstructing the use of a telephone line, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Analysis: Deputies determined that Barnes and a woman (believed to be his girlfriend) had a physical altercation that left both with visible injuries. Barnes allegedly prevented her from talking to 911 operators after the incident. However, Barnes told ABC News 10 that he "was the victim but still got arrested." He also texted the station, "U know any domestic violence situation 9 outa 10 times the man gets arrested. That's the case here I was the victim but still got arrested." Barnes, who signed a two-year deal with the Lakers this offseason, is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
Carmelo Anthony: Still Wants Out of Denver
Update: Anthony wants to be traded to the Knicks or Bulls, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Despite the recent overtures to Anthony from the new vice president of basketball operations, Masai Ujiri, to stay, it appears that Anthony has his mind made up. The only problem is Anthony really has no leverage in the current situation. The Nuggets don't have to make any move at all. While they could lose him to free agency next year for nothing they also aren't about to accommodate a guy who seems to be giving the entire city of Denver the middle finger. Anthony will probably get traded, but expect the Nuggets to take the best offer (can you say Clippers), and not bow to Anthony's wishes.
Andrew Bogut: Return Still Up in the Air
Update: Bogut visited a hand specialist and had an MRI on his elbow Wednesday, according to his official site.
Analysis: The results from his visit to the hand specialist and MRI aren't in yet, but we should have a better idea when he'll be able to return to the court once that news surfaces. The Bucks remain optimistic that Bogut will be ready for the start of the regular season, but Bogut will be a risky early-round pick until we get a more concrete timetable.
