Coming off a statement win against the Eastern Conference-leading Chicago Bulls, the Philadelphia 76ers welcome the Miami Heat to the Wells Fargo Center to close out their seven-game home stand. The Sixers have won four straight and seven of their last 10 games. So far they’re 5-1 on this home stand and have an overall 12-2 record on their home floor. The Heat were riding a five-game winning streak before suffering a 105-97 loss in Milwaukee on Wednesday night that knocked their road record down to 6-4.

Just 13 days ago, Philadelphia made the trip to Miami to take on the talented Heat roster. After hanging in the game through much of the third quarter, Miami went on a 23-8 run on their way to a 113-92 win. With Spencer Hawes sidelined due to injury, the Sixers were leaning on rookie center Nikola Vucevic to help on the glass, but midway through the third quarter Vucevic suffered a sprained ankle that would sideline him for the rest of the game. The Sixers were outrebounded by the Heat 52-31.

With Hawes still out, rookie Lavoy Allen has filled the Sixers’ void in the middle admirably, averaging 7.6 points and 5.0 rebounds over the last six games since Vucevic went down. At 6’ 9” and 225 lbs, he continues the Sixers’ trend of playing a somewhat undersized power forward at the center position in late-game situations, a role filled by Elton Brand last year. Though he was blanked in 17 minutes against Orlando, he scored a season-high 15 in 26 minutes against the Bulls on Wednesday while adding 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.

The Sixers have also been spurred by Andre Iguodala, whose stellar run of all-around play at both ends of the floor has been drawing attention yet again. In the last week, he’s recorded his thousandth career steal, passed Charles Barkley to sit fourth on the franchise list of most steals, and notched his eighth triple-double of his career. Though his 13.1 ppg is his lowest since 2005-06, his 46% shooting is his most efficient since 2008-09 and his 38.6% from beyond the arc is a career-high. Throw in 5.0 assists, a career-high 6.7 rebounds, 1.9 steals (his highest since 2007-08) and his lowest turnover rate since 2005-06, and it’s easy to see why he was named a US Olympic Team finalist earlier in January and could be poised to make his first All-Star Game appearance later this month.
